PROJECT OVERVIEW The Rupingazi Hydroelectric Project will harness the natural flow of the Rupingazi River in Embu County, Kenya, to generate 6MW of clean energy. Located within the biodiverse Njukiini Forest on the slopes of Mount Kenya, this run-of-river project prioritizes minimal environmental impact while delivering reliable renewable energy to Kenya’s national grid.      *Technical Specifications *Capacity: 2 x 3MW Francis turbines.    *Land Use: Compact 200m² footprint.    *Grid Integration: 2.5km from Embu Power Substation, utilizing upgraded 11kV infrastructure.      *Environmental Stewardship Aligned with IFC Performance Standards* and European Investment Bank Guidelines the project underwent rigorous environmental assessments to ensure:     Preservation of Njukiini Forest biodiversity.     Sustainable water resource management.     Near-zero ecological disruption.

The waterintake is to be located at the northern boundary of the forest. The intake is a low concrete structuretransverse to the flow direction that will divert water along a 3.6km concrete canal system and a 450mpenstock, to the power station and then released back into the river. It will be accompanied by a de-silting tank, a concrete structure planned to trap coarse sediment material, so that it is not transferred tothe turbines. The power station is being constructed on the left bank of Rupingazi river, 3.6kmdownstream from the intake, on land owned by Kleen Energy under freehold title immediately south ofthe protected area. The power station, which is expected to be on land of approximately 200m 3 , will house the mainturbines and the generators, as well as the panels and automation systems. The project will utilise two3MW Francis turbines

PROJECT OVERVIEw

The Project is a run-of-river 6MW hydro project located on the Rupingazi River in Embu County on the
South-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya and is one of the most advanced mini hydro projects under
development in Kenya. The project site has a gross head of approximately 112M between the water
intake point and the power station. Rupingazi River, a stream on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya
and which crosses Njukiini Forest, a protected area in Embu County.
The Project is being developed almost entirely within the borderlines of Njukiini Forest.
